In a few weeks, the friends of Oktibbeha County Constable Jimmy Shurden will raffle off a rifle to help pay the longtime lawman”s mounting medical bills.
The gun is a NEF Synthetic Handi-Rifle with a Monte Carlo stock, break-open action, slide-lever release, automatic ejection and transfer bar system. It uses .444 Marlin cartridges.
Raffle tickets are $5 each and can be purchased, beginning Wednesday, at Army Navy Pawn Shop, located at 426 Highway 12 W., Starkville. The gun also can be viewed at Army Navy Pawn.
Interested persons can reserve tickets by calling Tammy Carlisle or Andy Fultz at the Starkville Police Department, at 662-323-0393.
Entry deadline is March 1 and the drawing is March 2. The winner must complete the proper Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives paperwork before transfer.
Shurden has been constable for 28 years, but is not running for re-election due to an ongoing battle with cancer.
