The Kansas City Southern Railroad Company will launch a $7.5 million railroad improvement project this month that will see work in Columbus, West Point and several other northeast Mississippi cities.
The project — scheduled to begin Oct. 20 — will focus on KCSR’s Aberdeen Branch between West Point and Aberdeen and its Tuscaloosa Subdivision between Artesia and Columbus. Work is expected to last through the end of November and will include the replacement of 5.6 miles of rail, 38,000 cross ties and improvements to 19 road crossings, according to KCSR.
“KCS, through its U.S. and Mexican subsidiaries, continues to invest in capital projects to expand network capacity, keep maintenance in a regular and healthy cycle and enhance the safety of our operation,” CEO David L. Starling said in the release. “These investments also help us be an economic growth partner to our customers and the communities through which we operate.”
The improvement project aims to increase rail capacity and enhance safety. Work will occur in Aberdeen, Artesia, Columbus and West Point.
