Mississippi State defensive line consultant David Turner, who helped produce pro Bulldogs like Fletcher Cox and Chris Jones, announced his retirement on Saturday.
He served as MSU’s defensive line coach from 2007-09 and 2013-15, and most recently served as the senior defensive line consultant for the Bulldogs. His career in college football took him to stops at Alabama, Florida and Kentucky, among other DI football programs in his nearly 40-year career.
“Mississippi State has been good to me and my family,” Turner said in an X post announcing his retirement. “In the life of a college football coach, which is often a nomadic one, this has been home.”
He coached 15 NFL draft picks in his career, including Preston Smith and Gerri Green, while also signing the league’s highest-paid defensive tackle, Jeffery Simmons, to MSU. He was a part of MSU’s coaching staff that led the Bulldogs to 10 wins in 2014, and a record-setting 98 tackles for loss in 2015.
“To the Starkville Community, thank you for all that you’ve done for me, and more importantly my family,” Turner said.
