CLAY COUNTY – A Clay County man was arrested on Tuesday for multiple felony counts of statutory rape of a minor.
Amari Lyles, 18, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on two felony counts of statutory rape and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and disturbance of a family, Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott told The Dispatch.
Lyles is accused of having sex with a child under the age of 16. Under state law, statutory rape is committed when anyone 17 years or older has sexual intercourse with a minor who is at least 36 months younger.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be added before the case is presented to a grand jury in October, Scott said.
Scott would not provide additional details due to the nature of the case involving a minor, Scott said.
Lyles is being held in Clay County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
