CLAY COUNTY — Two Columbus men were arrested in Clay County on drug trafficking charges, according to Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott.
Just before midnight on Saturday, deputies were performing a routine business check at Mount Pisgah M.B. Church on Waverly Road when they spotted a vehicle driving erratically, Scott said. They pulled the vehicle over, and noticed a strong odor of marijuana.
Deputies searched the car and discovered several Ziploc baggies with a felony amount of suspected MDMA and fentanyl pills, as well as marijuana, $5,000 in cash and a loaded handgun, Scott said.
The “thousands” of pills deputies seized totaled up to about 1,400 grams of MDMA and fentanyl, while the marijuana was “probably a misdemeanor amount,” Scott said.
The driver was identified as Timothy Hudgins, 30, and his passenger as Treveon Hudgins, 21, both of Columbus. They are brothers, Scott said.
Both were charged with aggravated trafficking of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm.
Both were behind bars at the Clay County Detention Center as of press time.
