Park Place Boutique and Salon, 413 Main St., downtown Columbus is officially closed.
Owner Gail Stevens said she was thankful for the customers who supported Park Place for the last 10 years. Later this month, Park Place will reopen at its new location at 3451 New Hope Road.
“We love downtown, we absolutely loved it,” Stevens said. “We were just able to find a building within a mile from our house.”
Park Place New Hope will also open under new ownership. Steven’s daughter, Tina Beth Cruse, will take the reins. Park Place will have a salon with three stylists, their boutique line, as well as additional space for local vendors. Once open, you can check out the new Park Place Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Follow Park Place online for more updates.
Columbus will have a new Montessori-based after school program by this spring. Little Legends Montessori Academy, located at 420 31st Ave. N., prepares for a March opening. Shemeka Williams, program director and owner, said she’s excited to bring Montessori education to the Columbus region. Williams first opened Little Legends in Tupelo in February 2023 and is ready to open the second location in Columbus in the coming weeks.
“I can just feel the need,” Williams said. “I asked God to lead me, and everything just fell into place.”
Montessori is a type of education where children learn at their own pace. It’s a collaborative, hands-on learning environment where the students make the learning decisions themselves.
“I love Montessori,” Williams said. “I love to cater to my children. We are all uniquely made from God and we all learn from each other.”
Right now, Little Legends is accepting applications for children 3 to 6 years old. By summer, Williams said she will offer a summer camp for students, and a before and aftercare program.
Also in Columbus, some early construction work has started at 2212 Military Road, across from Lowes. Gill Fani, who also owns King’s Court near downtown, said Military Express should be open by this summer. Military Express will be a laundromat, convenience store, and liquor store under one roof. He added the convenience store will be “food-focused” with a dining area and kitchen serving southern style food including pizza, fried chicken, fried fish and more.
Moving on to Starkville, True REST Float Spa, 618 Hwy. 12, is gearing up for its grand opening. Owner Dana Robertson said they are in the final stages and should open on Feb. 12.
True REST is a spa that offers sensory deprivation pods for clients to float. Robertson said these therapeutic “floats” can help with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, insomnia, chronic pain and more.
“It’s extremely exciting, we’ve been looking forward to this,” she said. “… Once people get in here and they start to float, they’re not going to want to stop.”
