Dan Allen Sibley of Columbus passed away at his home on May 25, 2023, at age 91. He was the son of Thomas Jackson Sibley and Amy Velma Alverson Sibley of Russellville, AL. Mr. Sibley was born October 13,
1931, in Russellville, AL. He was raised on a farm in North Alabama and graduated from Mt. Hope High School in 1950. He joined the U.S. Air Force for four years after high school, spending two and a half years in Japan. In 1956, he worked for the Civil Service at the Army Ballistic Missile Agency in Huntsville, AL, and later worked Civil Service at Columbus Air Force Base as a purchasing agent for 20 years. In 1973, he opened Sibley’s Custom Hi-Performance and Speed Shop, which his son Parrish bought from him in 1993. Mr. Sibley continued to sell used cars and opened Sibley’s NASCAR Collectibles, which he retired from in 2021.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sibley is preceded in death by his oldest son, Dan Allen Sibley Jr., who passed away in 2014 of Multiple System Atrophy; and his only brother, Jerry Sibley (Reba).
Mr. Sibley is survived by his sons, Parrish Jackson Sibley (Denise) of Columbus and John Kelly Sibley of Baldwin, FL; and his daughters, Elizabeth Ann Sibley Prim of Columbus, MS, and Amy Diane Sibley Billingsley of West Point, MS; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Patricia Brown of West Point, MS.
Funeral services will be held at Lowndes Funeral Home of Columbus, MS, on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 3 PM, with visitation from 2-3 PM. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital of Memphis, TN.
