COLUMBUS — George “Snow” Nelson Jr., 95, died April 14, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle. Services are Friday at 1 p.m. Cedar Grove MB Church with the Rev. Robert Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation is today from noon-6 p.m. at Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus. Mr. Nelson was born May 13, 1914, in Lowndes County to the late George W. Nelson and Mary Amos Nelson. He was retired from Seminole Manufacturing. He was a member of Cedar Grove MB Church, where he served as oldest deacon, Sunday school superintendent, treasurer and choir member and he was a Mason. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Willie Nelson and Willie James; daughter, Mary Riley; five brothers and five sisters. He is survived by his wife, Addie Johnson Nelson, of Columbus; children, James B. Nelson, of West Point, John Nelson, Georgia Brown, Essie Colister, Betty Fisher, all of Columbus, Charlene, Mary, Abby, Rosie, Mariah, Viola, Christine, Jessie Mae, Johnny Mae, Charlie James and Lindon Johnson; sister, Ruby Anthony, of Chicago; 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers are Craig McKinstry, Randall McKinstry, Marquis Gardner, Anthony Nelson, Chucky Pryor, Kaline Hamilton and Fed Boyd.
