The West Point High School football team didn’t take the field for its scheduled opener, but it did take the No. 1 spot in Class 5A in the weekly Associated Press Mississippi High School Football Poll.
The Green Wave also rank fourth in the overall Top 10, behind Oak Grove, Oxford and Madison Central.
Noxubee County was ranked third among the state’s Class 3A teams, while Heritage Academy is in that position in the private schools poll.
Starkville received 3 points in the overall Top 10 poll and 14 in the Class 6A poll, which placed the Yellow Jackets sixth.
All Associated Press members in Mississippi are eligible to participate in the high school football poll.
