Senior Franck Di Sanza, junior Remi Rougetet and freshman Roury McCloyen have qualified for the NCAA men’s outdoor track and field championships at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon next month from their performances at the regional meet this week in Lexington, Kentucky.
Di Sanza and Rougetet will each compete in the javelin, with Di Sanza taking fourth place in Lexington at 72.38 meters. Rougetet’s mark of 69.65 meters was enough for him to advance as well. Di Sanza finished sixth at the NCAA Championships in 2021 while competing for Southeastern Louisiana, while Rougetet took ninth overall last year for Mississippi State.
McCloyen finished 11th in the shot put in Lexington with a mark of 18.81 meters, becoming the only freshman in the event to earn a trip to Eugene.
Three more Bulldogs will have the chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships later this week. Sophomore Peyton Bair will compete in the 110-meter hurdles, junior AJ Hale in the 400-meter hurdles and freshman Jordan Ware in the 200-meter dash.
Bair has already advanced to Eugene in the decathlon and finished third in his heat for the sprint hurdles. Hale was fourth in his heat and 15th overall in the 400 hurdles, and Ware was also fourth in his head for the 200 and 16th overall with a time of 20.59 seconds. Ware’s best time of the season, 20.18 seconds, is sixth-best nationally.
