Tray Huguley of MUW’s men’s basketball team added one last pair of honors this week to an already memorable season of accomplishments as he was named a NCAA Division III All-Region selection from both D3Hoops.com and the National Association of Basketball Coaches as a member of the second teams.
The feat marks the first time in program history a player has been named to a team by either organization. The awards find Huguley at the tail end of The W’s best men’s basketball season in history. The Owls captured the first-ever St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in any sport and earned the program’s first-ever entrance into the NCAA Division III tournament. Huguley took home the SLIAC’s Player of the Year honors and helped the Owls set a program record for wins (17) and helped the team boast the nation’s best shooting percentage (51.9%) from the floor.
“Jumping onto the stage this season and basically dominating it all along the way is very difficult in my opinion,” head coach Dean Burrows said. “As has been the case all season long, we are proud of these honors that Tray has brought to himself, his family, his teammates and our program, as the accolades have rolled in all season long to go along with what he and his teammates have accomplished.”
The sophomore Shelton State Community College transfer led the team with an average of 22.7 points and 11.7 rebounds on a 63.9% shooting mark from the floor. He also set the program record for points in a game with 51 points against Greenville University on December 6 and also set single-season school records points (591), points per game (22.7), field goals made (250), field goals attempted (391), field goal percent (63.9), total rebounds (304), rebounds per game (11.7), and double-doubles (18).
