Three weeks removed from capturing the MHSAA Class 5A state championship, Columbus’ boys basketball team was handed one more reason to celebrate at the Mississippi State Capitol on Wednesday.
Senator Chuck Younger led a presentation of Senate Resolution 73 commending the Falcons and head coach Phillip Morris for defeating Holmes County Central 52-38 at the Mississippi Coliseum on March 7 for the state title.
During the festivities, Representative Kabir Kareem presented House Resolution 107 to star forward Michael Hood Jr. to congratulate him on being named the 2026 Class 5A Mr. Basketball by the MHSAA.
The Falcons celebrated their state championship with a parade and block party yesterday in downtown Columbus.
