STARKVILLE — Starkville senior Elvin Savanadzovic signed a National Letter of Intent Wednesday afternoon to continue his swimming career at Missouri – St. Louis.
The Division II program is considered one of the best, ending the 2022-23 season ranked No. 21 nationally.
Savanadzovic now has the opportunity to join the ranks, continuing a stellar swimming career that began in Mississippi.
“I’m really proud to be going over there,” Savanadzovic said. “I’m really thankful for them for taking the risk and accepting me onto the team. … It feels really great to see my hard work and dedication over my whole swimming career finally paying off. I’m thankful for everyone who’s had a positive impact on my career.”
Savanadzovic is a multi-time Mississippi High School Athletics Association state champion, having won the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle races at last October’s state meet.
He also swam for Shockwave Aquatics in Tupelo under the coaching of Hayden Henderson.
“From the first day of practice, I knew he was going to be special,” Henderson said. “Talent only says so much. A lot of people can be talented, but if they have talent and no work ethic, they’re not going to get anywhere. He has a lot of talent and a hard work ethic, and that says a lot.”
Savanadzovic hopes his personal successes will help grow Starkville’s program and highlight the potential for swimmers from Mississippi. He’ll be proudly representing both the Yellow Jackets and Mississippi at the next level.
Most of all, he’s excited to compete for the Tritons’ high-level program.
“This has always been my goal since middle school,” Savanadzovic said. “… This means everything to me.”
