WACO, Tx. — Starkville Little League’s 2023 season came to an end over the weekend as the Mississippi Little League state champions were eliminated from the Little League World Series Southwest Regional in Waco, Texas.
Their regional tournament started with a 9-5 loss to Needville Little League, the Texas East representative, on Thursday.
Despite trailing 7-0 in the game, Starkville fought back, but came up short in the end, moving them to the elimination bracket for a Friday morning game against Three Rivers Little League, the Colorado representative.
Starkville stayed alive, dominating with an 11-1 win to play on Saturday against Tulsa National Little League out of Oklahoma, the same team they were eliminated by in 2022.
Unfortunately for Starkville, lightning struck twice, suffering a one-run loss against Tulsa for the second-straight season, a 5-4 final that ended an exciting and memorable year for the organization.
