Rocket Watts’ tumultuous time at Mississippi State ended Monday after just one season.
The Michigan State transfer confirmed in a tweet he had entered the NCAA transfer portal, becoming the sixth scholarship player to leave Mississippi State this offseason.
Watts has two years of eligibility left after spending the 2021-22 campaign with the Bulldogs. For the former prized recruit from Ohio, it was a down season.
Watts played in just 19 games, coming off the bench in all but one. He had to recover from offseason hip surgery and missed Mississippi State’s final 10 games with an elbow injury.
He scored just 4.4 points per game in Starkville, averaging less than one rebound and less than one assist per contest. Watts shot just 40.2 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from deep.
He follows forwards Javian Davis, D.J. Jeffries, Derek Fountain and Alden Applewhite as well as guard Camryn Carter out the door. Davis committed to UAB on Monday, while the rest of the outgoing Bulldogs have yet to decide on other schools.
