STARKVILLE – The Lady Bulldogs basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a big win over Valley State on Sunday, pulling away early with prolific shooting to take a XX-XX win at Humphrey Coliseum.
The crowd wasn’t nearly as loud or energetic as the Education Day crowd of more than 6,000 screaming school kids on Friday, but it bore witness to another impressive offensive display from a host of promising young Bulldogs.
Madison Francis had a particularly efficient first half, scoring 11 points on 5-6 shooting, but also dominated defensively with four blocks and two steals.
Chandler Prater led the team in scoring with 25 on the day, and was joined by freshmen Francis and Nataliyah Gray in double digits.
The late game saw opportunities for Gray and Rocio Jimenez to get in on the action as well, with big cheers for the latter as she bagged her first points.
The Bulldogs had a good chance at 100 points on Friday, but the pace slowed in the second quarter against Georgia State. The team didn’t let off the gas this time, and reached the century mark with a few minutes to spare.
The final tally of 107 points was the most in the Sam Purcell era.
MSU goes again on Thursday against Jackson State.
