NEW HOPE — The New Hope softball team wasted no time in a 12-1 rout of Nettleton on Tuesday in New Hope.
The Trojans (3-0) scored four runs in the first inning, three in the third and five in the fifth to clinch a five-inning, run-rule victory.
Charly Clanton had three of New Hope’s 15 hits, and Katelyn Humphreys and Reagan Cook each had two. Clanton drove in three runs, and Kendall Kostick drove in two.
Cook pitched all five innings and struck out four hitters.
The Trojans will play at Houlka on Thursday.
Starkville 15, Noxapater 10
NOXAPATER — The Starkville High School softball team survived a slugfest on Tuesday at Noxapater.
The Yellow Jackets pulled out a 15-10 road win over the Tigers.
After the teams each scored six runs over the first two innings, they headed to the fifth tied at 7-7. But Starkville scored four runs in the fifth inning, three in the sixth and one in the seventh to ensure the victory.
Shortstop Brianne Locke went 4 for 5 with four runs scored and three RBIs, and Center fielder Karlie Brooks also went 4 for 5, scoring four runs and driving in two.
Kyler Reeves allowed seven earned runs in five innings on the mound for the Jackets, striking out nine hitters. Locke allowed just one unearned run over the final two innings.
Starkville (1-0) will host Starkville Christian at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
