STARKVILLE — The Starkville High School baseball team eked out a 9-8 win over New Hope in eight innings on Monday in Starkville.
After the Yellow Jackets (6-5) went up 7-0, the Trojans scored seven straight to tie the game and pulled ahead 8-7 in the top of the seventh. Starkville tied it up to send the game to extras, and Hayes Davis drove in the winning run with two out in the eighth.
Next up, New Hope will face Madison Central at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the East Central Community College Tournament.
Starkville will play Evangelical Christian School (Tenn.) at Briarcrest Christian School (Tenn.) at 4 p.m. Thursday in Eads, Tennessee.

Orange Beach (Ala.) 5, New Hope 1, four innings
New Hope lost to Orange Beach (Alabama) in a four-inning game Monday at the Gulf Coast Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Kensley Woolbright pitched all four innings for the Trojans (4-6) with two strikeouts.
New Hope had four hits in the contest.
The Trojans will play Jo Byrns (Tenn.) and host Gulf Shores (Ala.) at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday in Gulf Shores.
Northside (Ala.) 6, New Hope 2, five innings
The Trojans also fell in their first game Monday, losing 6-2 to Northside (Alabama) in the five-inning contest.
Northside scored four runs in the first inning and two in the second. New Hope responded with two runs in the third.
Lailah Henderson had the lone hit for the Trojans. Adi Dueitt had one strikeout in three innings pitched, and Kensley Woolbright pitched one inning.
Prep Baseball
Caledonia 8, Mendenhall 0
Josh Pitts and Zack Gorum combined on a shutout as Caledonia blanked Mendenhall 8-0 on Monday at the East Central Community College Tournament.
Pitts had a two-run single for the Cavaliers in the first inning. Carson Elliott drove in two runs with a single in the fifth.
Caledonia will play at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Fayette (Alabama).
Oak Hill Academy 8, Newton County Academy 2
Brian Buchanan pitched a complete game as Oak Hill Academy beat Newton County Academy in the Raiders’ second game Monday in Decatur.
Buchanan struck out four and allowed just three hits and one earned run in Oak Hill’s 8-2 win.
Cameron Dill hit a two-run triple in the first inning, and the Raiders added a run in the second. Dill and Carson Taylor had doubles in the fourth to put Oak Hill up 4-1, and Colin Boyd hit a two-out RBI double in the sixth. The Raiders scored three more runs in the seventh.
Winston Academy 10, Oak Hill Academy 0, five innings
The Raiders were run-ruled 10-0 by Winston Academy in their first game in Monday’s tournament.
Winston scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Oak Hill will continue play in the tournament at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday against Leake Academy.
