Koby Livingston hit a one-out, bases-loaded single to score Caden Tate with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Starkville High School baseball team to a 2-1 win over Lafayette on Tuesday night in Starkville.
Livingston had both RBIs for the Yellow Jackets (8-14), driving in Cohen Deweese with a sacrifice fly in the third. Deweese had entered the game as a courtesy runner for Xavier Coleman, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
The run made a winner out of Kieran Coleman, who went the distance, allowing one run on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. The only run Coleman allowed was a home run by Tyrus Williams leading off the sixth.
Columbus Christian 13, Hebron Christian 1: On Monday, the Rams finished an undefeated district season as Emerson Weeks and Jackson Howard combined on a four-inning no-hitter.
Drake Shaw and Daniel Pate drove in two runs apiece for CCA (12-2), while Shaw, McCory Humphreys, Caleb Farlow and Lahndon Townley each scored twice.
Saltillo 18, Columbus 0: Kelton Cox was hit by a pitch during the third inning, the only Falcon to reach base against Tigers starter Garrett Glenn.
Glenn needed just 36 pitches to complete the three-inning game and struck out five.
Softball
Saltillo 4, New Hope 1: Laylah Henderson led off the fourth with a bunt single, stole second, took third on an error and scored on another error for the Trojans’ only run.
Saltillo pitcher A.K. Williamson recorded 14 strikeouts and one walk in tossing a three-hitter.
Tennis
Eight Volunteers advance: Grace Delp and Lizzie Skelton won at Girls No. 1 Doubles, and Lily Holliday and Harrison Holliday won at Mixed Doubles to highlight the Starkville Academy tennis team’s performance at the MAIS Glass 5A, District 1 Tournament on Tuesday in Cleveland.
The Volunteers will have eight players moving on to the North Half Tournament on Tuesday in Starkville, as the top two at each position advanced.
Both No. 2 doubles teams reached the finals: Morgan Peaster and Michela Castiglione for the girls and Joe Barrett and Jackson Walters for the boys.
