Faith Yeates scored all of her team-high 15 points during the first half Monday night to lead the Columbus Christian Academy girls basketball team to a 67-20 rout of Union Christian in the first round of the MAIS Class 2A Tournament at Delta Academy in Marks.
Morgan Whitten scored 12 of her 14 points during the first quarter, when the Rams scored 26 points. Satavia Watkins scored 12 points for CCA in a game that used a running clock during the second half.
Columbus Christian advances to a quarterfinal game at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at Delta.
MHSAA Class 3A
Noxubee County 61, Amanda Elzy 26: The Tigers built an early lead and extended it throughout the game to eliminate the Panthers.
Noxubee County led 15-7 after the first quarter, 28-13 at halftime and 45-20 after the third period.
The win earns Noxubee County a home game in the second round. The Tigers will host Alcorn Central at 7 p.m. Friday.
MHSAA Class 5A
Lake Cormorant 49, New Hope 44: Home-court advantage did the Trojans little good, as the Gators advanced to a second-round matchup at 7 p.m. Friday at Neshoba Central.
Softball
Choctaw County 11, Starkville 1: Freshmen Presley Buckley and Presley Ravencraft had the only hits for the Yellow Jackets in their opening game in Starkville.
Molly Thomas, Mary Sally and Maddie Sanders had two hits apiece for Choctaw County, backing the pitching of Presley Scarborough.
Olivia Mattison took the loss for the Yellow Jackets, who will be back in action on Tuesday
