TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — KJ Smith ran for three touchdowns, and Heritage Academy kept up its winning ways on the road Friday against Tuscaloosa Academy (5-3).
Smith ran 13 times for 71 yards as the top-ranked Patriots beat the Knights 33-7 to improve to 8-0 on the season.
Quarterback Carter Putt was 16 of 24 for 206 yards with a touchdown pass to Banks Hyde and two interceptions. Hyde led the team in receiving with four catches for 90 yards, including a 66-yard long. Jared Long had five grabs for 54 yards, and Noel Fisher had four catches for 40 yards.
Putt ran eight times for 49 yards, and Austin Dotson ran seven times for 37 yards.
Long and Wesley Miller each recovered a fumble for the Patriots, whose next game is at home against Lamar (6-2).
Noxubee County 19, Houston 12
MACON — Marlon Windham threw two touchdown passes, ran for another score and intercepted three passes, and Noxubee County (4-3) pulled off a 19-12 upset of Houston on Friday.
Windham completed 22 of his 33 passing attempts for 215 yards including touchdowns to Jeffery Malone and Chrishaad Rupert. Malone finished with five catches for 86 yards, Rupert had 59 yards on seven catches, and Coby Lockett caught five passes for 54 yards.
Windham ran 17 times for 151 yards and one rushing score.
On defense, he had seven tackles and three interceptions. Trillo Brown led the team with 14 tackles.
The Tigers travel to face Corinth (5-1) on Friday.
West Lowndes 32, French Camp Academy 31
Albert Plair rushed for three touchdowns and converted two two-point tries, and West Lowndes held off a late French Camp Academy rally to notch a one-point home win in Friday’s home game.
The host Panthers (6-1) led 32-19 heading into the fourth quarter, but French Camp (1-6) scored 12 points in the period to get very close to a comeback victory.
Plair finished with 20 carries for 135 yards as well as three receptions for 34 yards. Kevin Wilburn had nine carries for 50 yards and a touchdown as well as three catches for 28 yards.
Quarterback Melvin Crawford went 7 of 16 passing for 68 yards and an interception. Decamby Willis caught a two-point conversion from Crawford.
The Panthers will host Smithville on Friday.
Shannon 32, Caledonia 10
SHANNON — Caledonia fell back to .500 at 3-3 with a 32-10 loss to Shannon on the road Friday.
No stats were available despite attempts to reach coaches.
The Confederates host Mooreville (4-3) next Friday.
Lake Cormorant 34, New Hope 0
New Hope fell to 2-5 with a 34-0 home loss to Lake Cormorant on Friday.
No stats were available despite attempts to reach coaches.
The Trojans will travel to face Saltillo (1-6) next week.
Pillow Academy 35, Starkville Academy 7
GREENWOOD — Starkville Academy lost for the first time since its first game against Lamar, dropping a 35-7 decision to fifth-ranked Pillow Academy (6-1) on Friday in Greenwood.
CJ Jackson rushed 10 times for 106 yards and the lone touchdown for the Volunteers (5-2), which came in the third quarter. The Mustangs led 14-0 at halftime and stretched their lead with a 21-point third.
The Vols will travel to Cleveland to face Bayou Academy (1-6) next Friday.
Columbus Christian Academy 23, Delta Academy 20
Dakota Shaw threw two touchdowns to Jonathan Peal, and Columbus Christian Academy (5-2) held off Delta Academy 23-20 at home Friday night.
Shaw found Peal for a 20-yard score in the second quarter and a 26-yard touchdown in the third. Shaw also forced a key fumble in the fourth quarter that led to a Will Teague field goal to put the Rams up two scores.
Bryar Kemp scored the Rams’ first touchdown, a 5-yard rushing score, and Shaw was intercepted on the two-point conversion attempt. Delta scored to close the first quarter ahead 8-6.
Teague picked off Delta in the end zone in the second quarter — he had two interceptions in the game — and Shaw found Peal from 20 yards out to put the Rams up 12-8 at halftime.
After a Delta score to start the third quarter, Shaw connected with Peal for a 26-yard touchdown and converted the two-point try. Delta scored late in the fourth quarter after Teague’s field goal, bringing the score to 23-20.
The Rams will head to Bogalusa, Louisiana, next week to face Ben’s Ford Christian.
Unity Christian Aca. 52, Hebron Christian 22
PHEBA — Kobe Cooper had two touchdowns of more than 50 yards, but Hebron Christian (2-5) fell 52-22 to Unity Christian Academy on Friday night.
Cooper had a 58-yard rushing score among his 11 carries for 93 yards, and he returned a kickoff for an 83-yard touchdown as well.
Jon Garrett Lowe caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Braeden Triplett for the Eagles’ other score, and Triplett also found Lowe for a two-point conversion.
Elijah Parrish finished with eight carries for 76 yards. On defense, his 11 tackles led the team. Jackson Langley had 10 tackles, and Cooper had six.
Hebron’s next game is at DeSoto (West Helena, Arkansas) on Friday.
Clarke Prep 32, Pickens Academy 14
GROVE HILL, Ala. — Lane Goodman and Seth Peeks caught touchdown passes for Pickens Academy (Carrollton, Alabama) in Friday’s 32-14 loss at Clarke Prep.
Goodman had 64 receiving yards, Peeks had 18 and Clark Noland had 27 yards. Jon Wesley Rye led the Pirates (2-4) with 48 yards rushing on 23 carries.
Quarterback Aidan Johnson completed 10 of 25 passes for 77 yards, but he was intercepted four times.
On defense, Chandler Box led the team with 11 tackles. Pickens Academy’s next game is at home against Chambers Academy (7-0).
