NEW HOPE — The Starkville High School baseball team routed New Hope 14-1 in six innings on Saturday in New Hope.
The Yellow Jackets took a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning and added six runs in the fourth and five more in the sixth. With New Hope unable to cut into the deficit in the bottom of the sixth, the game ended after six innings on the run rule.
Drew Brown hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth for the Trojans’ only run.
Starkville hosts East Webster at 7 p.m. Monday. New Hope will play at East Webster at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
New Hope 4, Gordo (Ala.) 1
NEW HOPE — New Hope beat Gordo (Alabama) 4-1 before falling to the Yellow Jackets on Saturday.
Presley Hall hit a two-run, tiebreaking single in the bottom of the fourth to score Drew Brown and Cole Ruffin and give New Hope a 3-1 lead.
David Young tied the game with a single right before Hall came up.
In the bottom of the sixth, Hall drove in Young to add to the Trojans’ lead.
Gordo scored its only run in the top of the first inning against New Hope starter Ryan Burt.
Heritage Academy 8, Jackson Prep 4
FLOWOOD — The Heritage Academy baseball team secured a huge win over Jackson Prep on Saturday afternoon at the Walker Wilbanks Classic at Hartfield Academy.
Cole Ketchum had two hits and drove in four runs for the Patriots in an 8-4 win.
Heritage Academy scored two runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and two in the seventh. Jackson Prep scored all four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Banks Hyde had three hits for Heritage Academy, and Blayze Berry had two hits.
Ketchum struck out four in four innings pitched, and Berry struck out seven in three innings.
Heritage Academy will host Newton County Academy at 11 a.m. and Oak Hill Academy at 8:30 p.m. next Saturday in the Heritage Academy Invitational.
Hartfield Academy 5, Heritage Academy 1, Friday
FLOWOOD — Heritage Academy lost Friday’s road game 5-1 to Walker Wilbanks Classic host Hartfield Academy in Flowood.
Berry drove in the lone run for the Patriots in the third inning.
Hyde pitched four innings for Heritage Academy, and Seth Harris pitched two. Hyde struck out three batters, and Harris struck out one.
The Hawks scored two runs in the first and fourth innings and another run in the fifth.
Noel Fisher led Heritage Academy with two hits Friday.
Starkville Academy 14, Tuscaloosa Academy 4
STARKVILLE — The Starkville Academy boys routed Tuscaloosa Academy 14-4 in Saturday’s home game.
Garrett Lewis and Colby Allen each went 3 for 4 and drove in two runs for the Volunteers.
Ayden Alsobrooks went 3 for 3, and Michael Winfield went 2 for 3.
Lewis allowed four unearned runs in five innings pitched, giving up eight hits, walking three batters and striking out seven.
The Volunteers won in six innings on the run rule.
Starkville Academy 8, Bruce 0
STARKVILLE — Starkville Academy shut out Bruce 8-0 in Saturday’s first game in Starkville.
Alsobrooks allowed just two hits in five innings pitched, and Drew Williams pitched two scoreless innings.
Lewis went 2 for 3 with a double and a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Sam Clark went 2 for 2, scoring and driving in a run.
The Volunteers (5-0) will host Bessemer Academy (Alabama) on Monday.
Caledonia 11, Columbus 1, Friday
CALEDONIA — The Caledonia baseball team beat Columbus 11-1 by the run rule on Friday in Caledonia.
Justin Black struck out eight in four innings on the mound to earn the win for the Confederates (1-1). He also went 1 for 3 and drove in two runs.
Thomas Tucker went 1 for 3 with two RBIs, and Peyton McCollum went 2 for 3 with a run driven in.
Columbus will host Nettleton on Tuesday. Caledonia will play at Sulligent (Alabama) on Tuesday.
Lafayette 14, West Point 0
NEW ALBANY — The West Point baseball team was shut out 14-0 by Lafayette on Saturday in the New Albany Classic.
Nine different Commodores drove in at least one run in the run-rule victory.
West Point (1-1) hosts Starkville at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
West Point 7, New Albany 3
NEW ALBANY — West Point beat host New Albany 7-3 in Saturday’s other game.
Baker Watson and John Austin Ricks each went 2 for 3 for the Green Wave, which broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run sixth inning. Drew Wright drove in two runs for West Point.
Each team scored in the first and fourth innings, but the Green Wave pulled ahead for good in the sixth.
Xavier Moody allowed two runs in five innings pitched, walking three and striking out four. Noah Essary pitched the final two innings.
