The Heritage Academy baseball team (5-1) shut out Oak Hill Academy 8-0 in Thursday’s game in Columbus.
Three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings helped the Patriots to victory, while Banks Hyde pitched four scoreless innings and Davis Fitch pitched three.
Hyde struck out nine hitters, and Fitch struck out two.
Seth Harris and Cole Ketchum each had two hits for the Patriots, and KJ Smith drove in a pair of runs.
Garrett Edwards led Oak Hill (1-0-1) with two hits, and Dalton Magers pitched three innings.
Heritage Academy will host the Heritage Academy Invitational on Saturday, playing Newton County Academy at 10 p.m. and Columbus at 4 p.m.
Oak Hill will host Winston Academy at 6 p.m. Friday and will play Lee Academy at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Heritage Academy Invitational.
Nettleton 12, Columbus 1
The Columbus High School baseball team fell to 0-2 on the season with a 12-1 home loss to Nettleton on Thursday.
Nettleton scored two runs in the first and fourth innings and four in the second and third to end the game after five innings by the run rule.
Columbus will play Lee Academy at noon Saturday in the Heritage Academy Invitational before playing the host Patriots at 4 p.m.
Starkville 7, East Webster 3
STARKVILLE — The Starkville High School baseball team beat East Webster 7-3 in the Yellow Jackets’ home opener Thursday in Starkville.
Hayes Davis drove in two runs to lead Starkville (3-0) in the win.
Banks Perry struck out seven Wolverines in three innings on the mound for Starkville.
The Jackets host Amory at 7 p.m. Friday
Starkville Academy 7, Pillow Academy 2
STARKVILLE — The Starkville Academy baseball team won Friday’s home game against Pillow Academy, 7-2.
Cooper McNeel had a two-run home run for the Volunteers (6-0), and Kamden Upchurch drove in two runs. A four-run fifth and a two-run sixth added some cushion.
Harris McReynolds and Michael Winfield each had two hits for the Vols.
Ayden Alsobrooks pitched 5⅔ innings for Starkville Academy with 10 strikeouts.
Starkville Academy will play at Bayou Academy at 6 p.m. Friday.
