NEW HOPE — The Caledonia baseball team got some revenge in its rematch with rival New Hope, earning a 9-6 win in Tuesday’s game in New Hope.
The Trojans had edged the Confederates 6-5 in eight innings Friday in Caledonia, but on Tuesday, the ‘Feds earned revenge. Caledonia won a game in the rivalry matchup for the first time in 12 years.
Caledonia broke a 6-6 tie with a run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth.
Loren Cox drove in two runs for the ‘Feds; Gavin Holloman, Tyler McAdams and Nathan McLemore each had two hits.
Tony Brooks struck out four batters in 3⅓ innings, and Westlee Honeycutt struck out three in 3⅔ innings.
For New Hope, Presley Hall and Ryan Burt each drove in two runs. Dawson Lofton struck out two in four innings.
The Trojans (3-2) play at Calhoun City at 6 p.m. Friday.
Caledonia (6-2) hosts Fayette County (Alabama) at 4 p.m. Friday.
Starkville 11, West Point 1
STARKVILLE — Starkville High School run-ruled West Point in five innings in Tuesday’s game in Starkville.
The Yellow Jackets (5-2) put up seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to beat the Green Wave (1-5).
Ethan Pulliam had two hits and drove in four runs for Starkville, and Riley Dawkins drove in three runs.
Dawkins struck out eight in three innings on the mound, and West Point’s Baker Watson fanned five in 3⅓ innings.
Jordan Fitzpatrick drove in the lone run for West Point, which hosts Kossuth at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Starkville will play at Tupelo at 1 p.m. Saturday.
