COLUMBUS — Mississippi University for Women freshman cross country runner Hannah Owens earned women’s cross country Runner of the Week honors by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Monday.
Owens and the Owls competed in the Charger Invitational on Sunday, hosted by Division II University of Alabama-Huntsville, and she finished with a time of 21:45.10, four seconds behind her own school record.
“I’m so happy for Hannah right now, MUW head coach Dedrick Burnett said in Monday’s press release. “This is a well-deserved award. Hannah has been a great addition to our program and a joy to coach. … This will not be the last time you hear her name being mentioned for a conference award.”
The Olive Branch native has been one of MUW’s most consistent and best runners this season, already earning Owl of the Week honors and setting school records within weeks of her first season in Columbus.
MUW next competes in the SLIAC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 28 in Litchfield, Ill.
