BOONEVILLE — Northeast Mississippi Community College concluded its 75th anniversary celebration by recognizing its annual Tiger Award winners, which included New Hope native Caleb Parr from the Tigers men’s basketball team.
The Tiger Award is presented to individual student athletes from each NEMCC athletic program. Each recipient “consistently embodies positive attributes both on-and-off the field or court of competition.”
Parr has been with the Tigers basketball program since graduating from New Hope in 2022 and quickly became a key player on the team. Last season, Parr averaged 16.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while helping the Tigers to an eighth-successive Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference championship.
“Caleb is exactly what the Tiger Award is all about,” head coach Cord Wright said of Parr. “He is an honor student in the classroom, an all-conference player on the court and a very positive presence in the community and campus life.”
At New Hope, Parr put up historic numbers, scoring over 1000 points in his high school career and garnering several individual accolades, including Scorebook Live’s 2022 Mississippi Player of the Year and First Team All-State awards.
Parr recently earned a scholarship to play for Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina, where he is now participating in team training for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
