Sam Purcell and the Mississippi State women’s basketball team nabbed their third major-impact transfer in less than a month, and one they are very familiar with.
Erynn Barnum, a 6-foot-2 graduate forward previously of Arkansas, announced her commitment to the Bulldogs Saturday over her social media pages.
Barnum, rated as the No. 21 transfer player this offseason by ESPN, joins Seton Hall’s Lauren Park-Lane (No. 16) and Depaul’s Darrione Rogers (No. 19), who committed to MSU Thursday, as incoming transfer players in Starkville.
Barnum, who has one year of eligibility left, averaged a career-high 15 points per game last season, while adding 6.5 rebounds and 1.8 assist per contest. In her lone meeting against MSU, on Feb. 23, Barnum scored nine points and grabbed five boards in a 87-73 Bulldog win.
Barnum, from Little Rock, Arkansas, was originally a three-star recruit in Arkansas’ 2018 class. She averaged five points per game as a freshman, increasing that to 7.7 as a sophomore and 7.6 her junior year before taking last season’s major leap, where she was named an All-Southeastern Conference Second Team player.
Barnum shores up Mississippi State’s forward position, which had a formidable starter in Jessika Carter, who led MSU in scoring last season at 14.8 points per game, but not much experienced depth behind her.
Also returning in the group is senior Ramani Parker, who scored 4.8 points per game, but was also a 39% shooter from behind the arc, as well as Nyayongah Gony, a junior who only played in eight games last year and four-star true freshman Quanirah Cherry-Montague (Atlantic City, New Jersey).
