BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The start of SEC Media Days for basketball saw the announcement of the league’s preseason All-Conference teams, which included Mississippi State star Josh Hubbard. He joins Alex Condon (Florida), Otega Oweh (Kentucky), Tahaad Pettiford (Auburn), and Labaron Philon Jr. (Alabama) on the All-SEC First Team.
Hubbard’s breakout MSU career continued last year with starts in all 34 games, averaging 18.9 points per game while shooting .402 from the field and .345 from beyond the arc. He helped MSU reach the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row before exiting against Baylor in a painful First Round loss.
With 1,240 points through two seasons, Hubbard is on pace to become one of the greatest Bulldog scorers of all time, and is already fifth in program history with 216 three-pointers.
Hubbard’s appearance is the fifth consecutive in the preseason All-SEC team for the Bulldogs. The junior has finished each of his first two seasons with an All-SEC selection and is a two-time Bailey Howell Trophy recipient for the best men’s college basketball player in Mississippi. The only other Bulldog to earn All-SEC honors in each of their first two seasons is Erick Dampier.
As a sophomore, Hubbard was on the Midseason John R. Wooden Award watchlist and earned All-Southeast District honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
The Bulldogs were not one of the six SEC programs voted into the Associated Press Top 25, but did receive three votes entering Year 3 under head coach Chris Jans.
