Mississippi State football announced Wednesday that it will host Toledo on Sept. 14, 2024 at Davis Wade Stadium.
The game will be the first-ever meeting between the Bulldogs and Rockets, and it completes MSU’s non-conference schedule. The Bulldogs will host Eastern Kentucky to open the season on Aug. 31 before traveling to Tempe to face Arizona State on Sept. 7. The non-conference slate concludes with a home game against UMass on Nov. 2.
In Southeastern Conference play, MSU will host Arkansas, Florida, Missouri and Texas A&M, and will play Georgia, Tennessee, Texas and Ole Miss on the road.
The Toledo game replaces the Bulldogs’ originally scheduled home game against Utah State. Next season will be the third-straight year that a team from the Mid-American Conference will visit Davis Wade. MSU defeated Bowling Green 45-14 last September, and will host Western Michigan on Oct. 7.
The Rockets have been consistently one of the strongest teams in the MAC and are the defending conference champions. Toledo head coach Jason Candle is currently in his eighth season there and has a 56-33 overall record, including a 35-19 mark in conference play. He also won a MAC title in 2017.
