The Southeastern Conference announced its pairings for the 2024-25 women’s basketball season, and Mississippi State will host former head coach Vic Schaefer when SEC newcomer Texas visits Humphrey Coliseum.
The Bulldogs will also host the SEC’s other new member, Oklahoma, and will play defending national champion South Carolina at home as well. Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Texas A&M will also come to Starkville. Auburn is MSU’s rotating home-and-away opponent next year, and with the SEC sticking to a 16-game conference schedule even after expanding to 16 teams, the Bulldogs will only play the rival Rebels once.
MSU’s road-only opponents are Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Missouri, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. The matchup with the Wildcats will be a homecoming for Eniya Russell, who transferred to the Bulldogs from Kentucky in mid-April.
Dates, times and TV coverage will be announced later.
Schaefer was the Bulldogs’ head coach from 2012 until 2020, compiling a 221-62 record in Starkville and leading MSU to the national championship game in 2017 and 2018. He also won a pair of SEC titles before taking the Texas job in April of 2020.
Current head coach Sam Purcell is the third coach to lead the Bulldogs since Schaefer’s departure and is now entering his third season in Starkville. MSU returned to the NCAA Tournament in Purcell’s first year but came up short in 2024 after a five-game losing streak in February.
