Following a weekend in which 17 Class of 2024 prospects visited Mississippi State, head coach Jeff Lebby secured three commitments in quarterback Michael Van Buren and wide receivers Mario Craver and Sanfrisco Magee.
Van Buren, a Baltimore native rated as the No. 13 quarterback in the class by 247Sports, had decommitted from Oregon on Dec. 2 and became MSU’s clear target after Josh Flowers decommitted from the Bulldogs last Tuesday. He had a plethora of other offers, including Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma, Penn State and Tennessee.
Craver, a four-star recruit out of Pinson, Ala., chose MSU over both Southeastern Conference schools in his home state, as well as nine other SEC programs plus other blue bloods like Michigan and Florida State.
Magee, a McComb High product, decommitted from Ole Miss earlier this month and joined Craver and JJ Harrell in what is becoming a stacked receiver class. He also had offers from Florida State, Louisville and Nebraska, among others. If the Bulldogs can land Starkville High star Braylon Burnside, who will announce his commitment at the Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 3, MSU will have four standout receivers joining the team next fall.
The trio of commitments lifted the Bulldogs out of last place in 247Sports’ SEC recruiting rankings for the Class of 2024. MSU is now in 15th, having leapfrogged Vanderbilt.
