Mississippi State assistant coach Dave Nichol is reuniting with Lincoln Riley in Los Angeles.
Nichol, the Bulldogs’ inside receivers coach since February 2020, is leaving to become an assistant at USC, a source confirmed. The news was first reported by 247 Sports.
Riley, a former assistant under Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach at Texas Tech, was a student assistant with the Red Raiders from 2003 to 2005, a graduate assistant in 2006, the receivers coach in 2007 and the inside receivers coach in 2008 and 2009.
The former Oklahoma head coach was hired to the same position at USC on Sunday and has set to work getting his staff together.
Nichol spent 2003 to 2005 as a graduate assistant at Tech and has remained close with Riley since their time in Lubbock, making him a natural choice to work on Riley’s staff. He also worked with Riley at East Carolina in 2014.
He becomes the first Mississippi State assistant coach under Leach to leave Starkville since the former Washington State coach took over in January 2020.
