Shakeel Moore became Mississippi State’s first regular starter to enter the transfer portal, On3 Sports reported Wednesday.
A senior guard who played his freshman season at North Carolina State before transferring to MSU, Moore started 22 games for the Bulldogs this season, averaging 7.9 points per contest. He shot 46.8 percent from the floor and 36.3 percent from 3-point range, including 4-for-4 in a win at Missouri in February. Moore will be a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining.
Moore’s performance has been relatively consistent across his three years in Starkville, although his minutes declined slightly in 2023-24. Although budding superstar Josh Hubbard will be back, MSU loses Moore and Dashawn Davis from the backcourt, making the addition of Penn State transfer Kanye Clary all the more important.
Following the 2021-22 season, Moore put his name into the portal during the Bulldogs’ coaching transition before electing to return to MSU and play for Chris Jans. He is now the third player from the 2023-24 team to enter the portal, joining guard Trey Fort and forward Jaquan Scott.
