Iverson Molinar won’t be returning to the Mississippi State men’s basketball team.
The Bulldogs guard, who declared for the NBA draft on March 25, confirmed on social media Monday evening he has hired an agent, barring him from returning to school.
“Thanks to Coach Howland and the entire staff for the opportunity and support given to me to represent the Bulldog family in the best way possible,” Molinar wrote. “Thanks to (assistant) Coach Korey (McCray) for recruiting me, believing in me since day one and giving me the opportunity to play college basketball.
“With that being said, it is time for me to take the next step forward in my career.”
Molinar finished third in the Southeastern Conference in scoring last season with 17.5 points per game, leading the Bulldogs. He grabbed 3.1 rebounds per game and led Mississippi State with 3.6 assists per contest.
Molinar had a down season from 3, shooting just 25.2 percent from beyond the arc, but he stepped up his inside game and became MSU’s go-to scorer. Molinar scored in double digits all of 34 of the Bulldogs’ games.
He is one of 10 scholarship players to leave the program in the offseason. Forward Garrison Brooks is out of eligibility, while wing Andersson García became the eighth Bulldog to enter the transfer portal earlier Monday.
Molinar is projected to either be a second-round pick in June’s draft or go unselected.
