Clary was the Nittany Lions’ leading scorer this past season as a sophomore, averaging 16.7 points per game. He was dismissed from the team in February for unspecified reasons, however, and will look for a fresh start in Starkville.
A three-star recruit out of Virginia Beach, Va., Clary chose Penn State over Texas A&M and six other offers. He was a 46.2 percent shooter in 2023-24, including 36.2 percent from 3-point range. With MSU, Clary should immediately become a key piece of the guard rotation and would be an excellent complement to Josh Hubbard and Shakeel Moore, should the two of them remain on board.
Forward Cameron Matthews, the Bulldogs’ best defender, announced his return Friday for his final season of eligibility. Sophomore guard Shawn Jones Jr. also said he will be returning earlier this week.
MSU has lost guard Trey Fort and forward Jaquan Scott to the portal, neither of whom were playing much of a role late in the year.
