Mississippi State junior catcher Mia Davidson had a career night Wednesday as the Bulldogs improved to 25-3 on the season with a 7-2 road win at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg.
Davidson had a career-high four hits, including two home runs, as she powered Mississippi State to its 14th consecutive victory.
“It was good to see Mia get on a roll for us going into SEC play for us,” head coach Samantha Ricketts said in a news release from Mississippi State. “We knew that we needed a good plan coming down to play in Hattiesburg. They always have a great crowd for us, and it’s fun to have an opportunity to play in the southern half of our state.”
While Davidson drove in four runs, the Bulldogs’ pitching staff stifled the offense of the Golden Eagles (14-8). Senior Alyssa Loza allowed one run in three innings, sophomore Grace Fagan pitched three scoreless frames, and freshman Aspen Wesley allowed a run in the seventh.
“I thought the pitchers did a great job of mixing speeds and keeping them off balance,” Ricketts said.
Senior first baseman Fa Leilua went 2 for 3 with a run scored for Mississippi State, and junior designated player Carter Spexarth, senior right fielder Candace Denis and freshman shortstop Madisyn Kennedy also had RBIs.
Freshman Brylie St. Clair entered in the second inning as a pinch-hitter and scored twice.
Mississippi State hosts its first Southeastern Conference series of the season against Kentucky beginning at 5 p.m. Friday at Nusz Park in Starkville. In accordance with a statement released by the SEC on Wednesday, Mississippi State has limited attendance for the contest and all athletic events through at least March 30 to student-athletes, coaches, event staff, essential team and conference staff, credentialed media, and immediate family members of the participating student-athletes and coaches, according to a news release from the school.
