STARKVILLE — Mississippi State head football coach Jeff Lebby announced the addition of three more members of the coaching staff on Sunday, adding two offensive assistants, Kevin Johns and Desmond Lindsey, as well as a new defensive line coach in Ty Warren.
Lebby will work closely on the offensive side with new offensive assistant Johns and assistant wide receivers coach Lindsey.
Johns was most recently the quarterbacks coach at Oklahoma State, and has 14 years of experience coaching at FBS programs. Before moving to Stillwater, Johns was the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oklahoma in 2024. He was notably the offensive coordinator at Indiana from 2011- 2016. He also has stints at Duke, Memphis, Texas Tech and Western Michigan.
“Kevin Johns is a big-time addition for our program. His résumé speaks for itself,” Lebby said. “He’s been an elite offensive mind for a long time, coordinating explosive, productive offenses and consistently developing talent and generating production. Kevin understands how to evaluate, teach and adapt, and he knows how to turn those traits into results. His experience and offensive acumen will be a major asset for us moving forward.”
Lindsey, a native of Taylorsville, Mississippi, comes to the Bulldogs after a year coaching receivers at UTEP. He was previously the associate head coach, offensive recruiting coordinator and receivers coach at Southern Miss from 2021-2024, and was named Sun Belt Recruiter of the Year in 2023.
“Desmond brings experience, credibility and a deep understanding of our great state and the recruiting landscape here,” Lebby said. “He’s coached productive skill groups everywhere he’s been, he builds strong relationships, and he knows what it takes to compete and win. Our players are going to benefit immediately from his knowledge and energy.”
Defensively, the addition of Warren is a high-profile swing at a rising talent in the coaching world. The former Texas A&M standout joined the coaching ranks in 2019 after a nine-year career in the NFL, winning two Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots and earning a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2007.
Warren moved to the college coaching ranks in 2023 with Stephen F. Austin before becoming the run-game coordinator and defensive line coach at Rice in 2025.
“Ty brings a strong combination of experience as both a player and coach, along with the perspective, mindset and edge that will be of tremendous value to our program,” Lebby said of Warren. “He’s been where our players want to go, understands what it takes to compete at the highest level, and brings a solid foundation as a teacher, developer and recruiter. His energy, attention to detail and ability to connect with players stand out immediately. This is an important addition for our defense.”
