CASPER, Wyo. — East Mississippi Community College saw one of its own compete at the College National Finals Rodeo last week. The Lions’ Tanner Brown teamed up with Laine Moore from Northwest Mississippi Community College for a trip to Wyoming for the team roping finals.
Brown and Moore earned one of 12 spots to compete for the title and put together an aggregate score of 25.5 seconds to finish in fourth place in team roping at the Ford Wyoming Center.
Brown and Moore qualified for the CNFR through a strong performance in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s Ozark Regional standings, totaling 620 points over 10 regular season events. Together they took first place in a season-opener rodeo event at Missouri Valley College and finished runners-up at the NWCC rodeo in April.
Brown helped the Lions rodeo team earn 120 points in CNFR competitions. The school finished tied in 29th place nationally in the final men’s team standings, which includes both four-year and two-year colleges.
This was Brown’s third CNFR appearance for the Lions, and he now holds the school record for the highest roping finish since Ethan Wheeler in 2017.
EMCC’s rodeo program under head coach Morgan Goodrich has seen success year after year. Brown’s three appearances at the national championships extended the school’s streak of CNFR appearances to 14 years, dating back to 2010 when the program first started.
