STARKVILLE — Mississippi State men’s basketball head coach Chris Jans announced more staff changes on Friday. Earlier this week Jans brought in Doug Wagemester and Jordan Sperber to assist behind the scenes, and now he’s announcing promotions for several members of his staff.
Patrice Days, Dillon Elder and Scott Padgett have been elevated to assistant coaching positions while Jovan Austin has been promoted to the team’s director of recruiting.
“We’ve been able to reward our staff recently for their work and for their commitment to Mississippi State basketball,” Jans said of the staff changes. “We have a core group returning for our third season together which is great for communication, synergy and production. Our recent additions will mesh well with our returning staff and their skill sets. I’m excited to see what this team can accomplish for the betterment of our players and our program.”
The staff helped Jans guide MSU back to relevance with back-to-back 21-win seasons with NCAA Tournament appearances. This past season the Bulldogs made some noise with big wins over Top 10 opponents both in the regular season and at the Southeastern Conference tournament, knocking off Tennessee and Auburn on their way to clinching a No. 8 seed in the West bracket of the dance.
The Bulldogs haven’t made back-to-back tourney appearances since Rick Stansbury’s teams in 2007-08 and 2008-09, and the expectation with a reloaded roster is to punch their ticket a third time in March 2025.
