STARKVILLE — Mississippi State men’s basketball head coach Chris Jans announced new additions to his coaching staff on Wednesday, adding experience with former coach and administrator Doug Wagemester and analytics expert Jordan Sperber.

Wagemester joins the team as MSU’s senior associate athletics director of men’s basketball and Sperber comes in to serve as MSU’s senior director of basketball strategy.
Wagemester succeeded Chris Jans as head coach at Kirkwood Community College in 1998, leading the program for 14 years before taking on administrative duties as the school’s Athletic Director. He earned 409 wins as head coach and guided Kirkwood to national runner-up finishes in the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament in 2005, 2006 and 2009.
“I’ve known Coach Wags my entire adult life,” Jans said in a university release. “Our relationship has been long and trustworthy. Wags will bring a multi-faceted skill set to our program. He knows me, knows ball and is a highly organized communicator who will serve our program well in the office, on campus, and in the community. We can’t wait to welcome Doug, Kim and his family to Starkville.”

Sperber served on Jans’ staff at New Mexico State University as a video coordinator and is best known for his work with Hoop Vision, an analytics website he created as a high school student that archives statistical and film data on players. Hoop Vision and Sperber’s work in analytics have made him a well-known mind in basketball statistics and evaluation and a high-profile addition to the Bulldogs staff.
“The college basketball industry knows and respects Jordan Sperber,” Jans said. “Jordan is a relentless worker that possesses a rare talent. His ability to absorb and process information to help our team gain a competitive advantage is second to none. I’ve worked with Jordan and witnessed firsthand the analytical skills he will use to help us succeed. Mississippi State basketball got significantly better with the additions of Doug and Jordan to our staff.”
