Mississippi State officially has an opening on its coaching staff as associate head coach James Miller has taken on the same role at Oklahoma State.
Miller has been by Bulldogs head coach Chris Jans’ side for the last six years, following him from New Mexico State after Jans was hired by MSU. He became the Bulldogs’ top assistant last May, and Jans credited him with drawing up a play that led to a late alley-oop dunk from Dashawn Davis to Cameron Matthews that gave MSU a win over Murray State in December.
With the Aggies, Miller and Jans won the WAC regular season title three times in four years, reaching the NCAA Tournament in 2019 and 2022. In 2020, New Mexico State was undefeated in conference play before the postseason was canceled due to COVID-19. The No. 12 seed Aggies upset No. 5 seed Connecticut in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament before falling to Arkansas.
Prior to his time at New Mexico State, Miller spent one season each as an assistant coach at North Texas, Arkansas State and Omaha.
