COLUMBUS — Heritage Academy football will have a new face as head coach after first-year head coach Lance Pogue has resigned after one season at the helm, the school confirmed on Wednesday.
Pogue came to Columbus in April 2022 after a five-year stint at Jackson Academy.
In his one year with the Patriots, he coached them to a 10-2 record, losing to Oak Forest Academy (La.) in the semifinals of the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools Class 5A playoffs.
According to Wednesday’s press release, Pogue left to “pursue opportunities outside of coaching.”
“We are appreciative of Coach Pogue’s service to HA and the high school football program,” Heritage Academy Headmaster Sean Harrison said. “Obviously, when you have the opportunity to hire a coach of his stature, you do so without fear of how long he may be with you. Coach Pogue was a steadying force this year amongst a lot of change within the football program. We wish him nothing but the best as he goes into a new career outside of coaching.”
The Patriots will announce their next head football coach on Friday morning, according to a press release.
