Arkansas’ Christian Turner hit a walk off two-run home run Sunday afternoon against No. 17 Ole Miss in the rubber match between the teams, as the No. 22 Razorbacks claimed the finale 5-4 and clinched the series at Baum-Walker Stadium.
Ole Miss (32-17, 12-12 SEC) third baseman Judd Utermark broke a 3-3 tie with a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning, his 19th of the season. He has 48 home runs in his career, tying him with Kyle Gordon for the program record.
Ole Miss sophomore starting pitcher Taylor Rabe surrendered two earned runs over five innings of work. He struck out seven batters and walked two. Arkansas’ (32-17, 13-11) Kuhio Aloy hit a game-tying solo home run in the sixth inning off sophomore JP Robertson, his third homer of the series.
Arkansas won the opener against Ole Miss 12-2, while the Rebels won the second game of the series 11-4. It’s Ole Miss’ second straight SEC series loss.
The Razorbacks struck first Sunday on a two-out RBI from Aloy in the first inning before the Rebels answered with sophomore shortstop Owen Paino’s opposite field three-run home run into the visiting bullpen in the top of the second. That was the last of the scoring until the bottom of the fifth inning, when Zack Stewart hit a solo homer off Rabe to cut the Rebels’ lead to one run.
Utermark’s long ball to center field off Razorbacks ace reliever Ethan McElvain put Ole Miss back in front in the top of the eighth. McElvain had not allowed a home run this season prior to Utermark’s at-bat.
Sophomore closer Walter Hooks surrendered a leadoff single to Nolan Souza before giving up the game-winning home run to Turner, who was making his first plate appearance of the day after taking over in right field in the eighth. It was his first hit since April 10.
Ole Miss hosts Texas A&M for a three-game series starting Friday. Game 1 is set for 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
