The Mississippi Association of Coaches announced its All-State baseball teams this week and five area players were selected to the squads.
In Class 7A, Starkville’s B.J. Hendrix was named Second-Team All-State. The sophomore infielder led the Yellow Jackets with 34 hits and a .386 batting average as he helped his team finish the year 21-12-1.
In Class 5A, Caledonia had a pair of pitchers get selected to the team with Reid Garrett leading the way on the first-team, and sophomore Aaron Harris earning a spot on the second team. Garrett, a Liberty University commit who also had 24 hits and eight home runs for the Cavs this season, led the team with 81 strikeouts with a 1.64 ERA on the mound, while Harris fanned 41 and gave up only 35 hits. They both helped the Cavs capture the Region 1-5A championship, reach the Class 5A North Half Championship and finish at 21-11 overall.
New Hope had two of its players selected to the all-state teams as well. Pitcher Carson Willis, a junior, was tabbed as a first-team selection. He struck out a team-high 43 batters this season while allowing only 23 hits from the mound. Dalton Elmore, a senior second-team selection, both pitched and hit his way onto the squad. Elmore produced 19 hits and 16 RBI at the plate for the Trojans and pitched 6.1 innings with eight strikeouts and eight hits. Combined, all three Trojans helped the team finish the year at 18-13 overall.
