STARKVILLE — Starkville baseball has a new head coach as Mark Monaghan, longtime head coach at DeSoto Central, accepted an offer to become the newest head coach of the Yellow Jackets, a source confirmed Wednesday afternoon.
Monaghan takes over for previous head coach Luke Adkins, who led the Jackets for five seasons.
Monaghan brings with him a sterling resume and a wealth of experience, winning 271 games in 11 seasons with the Jaguars. Monaghan’s teams won three Mississippi High School Activities Association state titles, five North Half championships and six region championships.
During his time at DeSoto Central, 77 players signed to play college baseball and seven of his players were MLB Draft picks.
Starkville is coming off a 13-9 season in 2023, going 3-6 in Class 6A, Region 1 play and missing the postseason.
