Columbus Soccer Organization Announced its 2024 Award Winners for the 2023-24 season, recognizing the organization’s scholarship recipients, as well.

The Volunteer of the Year for 2024 is Michelle Remson, who has served as team manager for her daughter’s Columbus United teams for several years and will continue working with the U18 Girls team for the 2024-25 year.
“In all those positions she has demonstrated a dedication to the organization, the players and families served, and the community,” CSO said in a release.
The 2024 Todd Fishel Memorial Coach of the Year recipient is Layla Wilson, who won the award by a unanimous vote from her fellow coaches.
Wilson is a coaching veteran with CSO who has coached rec, U8, and multiple teams at the competitive level. She currently coaches the U15 boys and the U18 girls.

“Wilson’s teams have considerable success on the field, earning medals at multiple tournaments. However, her most significant accomplishment as a coach is creating an environment in which all players can thrive and develop as players and individuals,” according to the release.
Aaron Budlove also won a coaching award as the recipient of the CSO Recreational Coach of the Year honor.
“The award is based upon nominations from the CSO board member for recreational soccer, Jessica Tackett. Also considered is feedback from fellow coaches, input from players and parents, as well as the coach’s behavior during matches towards officials and players. It was noted that Budlove has consistently encouraged players of all skill levels, taken on the difficult job of coaching older teams, and provides a well-structured plan for his teams,” CSO said in a release

CSO also gave out a referee award named after Many Pintican for his decades of service in refereeing the game. The 2024 Many Pintican Young Referee of the Year award was given to Hutch Clemons.

In a release, CSO said: “The award was based on a nomination by head referee assignor Jessica Davis, feedback from coaches, and Clemons’ record on the field. It was noted that Clemons often took on extra matches and worked hard to learn and apply the rules of the game.”

Chloe Boyd was given the 2024 CSO scholarship ahead of her signing with Itawamba Community College and Brant Smith had his scholarship renewed after previously receiving the award in 2023.
“Chloe played all her club soccer with Columbus United, anchoring many championship teams. Boyd was also a standout player at Heritage Academy, earning All-State honors her senior year. She has signed to play college soccer at ICC next year and in doing so represents one of over 30 United players in just the last 8 years to move on to the next level,” according to CSO’s release.
