It was a successful weekend for volleyball in the Golden Triangle region as both teams who began their Mississippi High School Activities Association playoff journeys advanced to the second round.
Class 4A Caledonia and Class 1A West Lowndes both hosted matches on Saturday to get things started, with the Cavaliers welcoming in Itawamba Agricultural and the Panthers hosting Jumpertown.
West Lowndes had the more competitive match of the two, winning its first-ever home playoff match in five sets.
Caledonia won in convincing fashion, a straight-set victory that keeps it in the driver’s seat in the Class 4A playoffs.
The Panthers are set to face Tupelo Christian Prep in the second round of the 1A playoffs in Tupelo on Tuesday. TCP was 17-4 this season, going undefeated in district play.
Caledonia hosts West Lauderdale in the second round of the 4A playoffs, also on Tuesday. The Knights went 25-16 in the regular season, but struggled in district play, going 1-5.
