NICEVILLE, Fla. — Mississippi State women’s basketball got back on track this week with a pair of mini-tournament wins over Alcorn State and Middle Tennessee State at the Emerald Coast Classic in Florida.
The Bulldogs, now 6-1 on the season, rebounded in style after a disappointing loss at Texas Tech a week ago. A 65-51 win over Alcorn State on Monday set up a championship bracket meeting with the Blue Raiders on Tuesday, which MSU handled to the tune of 69-47 to complete their stay in Niceville on a high.
Freshman standout Madison Francis led the way in both games with 15 and 17 points, respectively, missing just six shots in two games while staying perfect at the free-throw line and mopping up six rebounds per game. She also recorded six blocks in one game against the Braves, setting a new personal best in her collegiate career. Her performances earned her Bay Bracket MVP honors.
The Bulldogs did well offensively as a team throughout as well, shooting 55.1 percent from the floor as a collective, including a 45% hit rate from beyond the arc.
Head coach Sam Purcell’s team will return home for non-conference action this weekend against UL Monroe on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will stream on SEC Network+.
