Mississippi State put together one of its most complete performances of the year Thursday afternoon, with the No. 17 Bulldogs shutting out Arkansas 7-0 at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
MSU (16-4, 6-3 Southeastern Conference) kept its streak intact of winning every doubles point in SEC play. The No. 3 team of senior Dusan Milanovic and junior Michal Novansky started things off with a 6-2 victory, and the No. 2 duo of freshman Niccolo Baroni and junior Mario Martinez Serrano secured the doubles point by winning 6-4. That pairing clinched the doubles point for the third straight match.
The Bulldogs then won every set in singles, starting with a 6-4, 6-0 victory from junior Benito Sanchez Martinez at No. 1 — his fifth straight win. Martinez Serrano earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 4, and sophomore Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes clinched the match for MSU at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
The remaining matches were played out and Milanovic earned the Bulldogs’ fifth point at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph, snapping a six-match losing streak individually. Junior Petar Jovanovic and Baroni finished off the shutout of the Razorbacks (14-10, 3-7).
MSU improved to 14-1 at home, the best mark in the SEC, and has not lost a conference match in Starkville. The win was the Bulldogs’ 10th shutout overall but their first in SEC play, heading into another home match Saturday against Florida.
