STARKVILLE — Mississippi State women’s soccer is coming off arguably its best win of the season, a road victory against an unbeaten and ranked Kentucky team to improve to 4-2-1 in the Southeastern Conference.
The Bulldogs, now riding a three-match winning streak and sitting at 9-3-3 on the season, were recognized by the NCAA as the Women’s Soccer Team of the Week.
Mississippi State scored both goals in the second half of Sunday’s 2-0 victory, starting with an own goal in the 50th minute, a ball into the box from Haley McWhirter that deflected into the net.
Maggie Wadsworth doubled the lead and secured the win for good with her third goal of the season in the 78th minute.
The Bulldogs now have a four-match unbeaten streak in conference play and are tied with South Carolina for second in the conference with 13 points.
Mississippi State concludes its regular season home slate on Thursday night against Vanderbilt.
